Charging for an estimate $189.00

I called Heritage Auburn NH to get an estimate. They told me that they send someone out and I had to pay $189.00 for an estimate. This is before they even do anything! I thought estimates were free?

Preferred solution: Actually I have another plumber coming that is not charging for an estimate. I will NEVER use Heritage again!

User's recommendation: If you want to have to pay for an estimate call them.

Heritage Plumbing & Heating in NH overcharges and rips you off

I had two showers that were acting up. The first shower failed to produce hot water, the temperature was only lukewarm. The second shower was leaking, and had gradually worsened from a slow drip to a constant stream of water. I called Heritage Plumbing & Heating in Salem NH. They sent out a guy who took a cursory look at both showers, and then quoted me a price of $1800. I asked why so expensive, and he said he didn't feel comfortable installing a new cartridge, and would need to cut holes in the walls to put in brand-new valves. I then called a local plumber who installed a new cartridge in under 5 minutes in one shower, and did in fact have to install a new valve in the second shower. However, the price he charged for parts and labor was $400, and he was done in about 2 hours. Bottom line, don't trust Heritage Plumbing & Heating. They severely overcharge.

I have a maintence contract with them (soon to be removed). I swear every time that they come for the bi-annual check of the AC system or the heating system within a couple of weeks of turning the systems on there is something that breaks.

They want $90 because they show up to tell us they have no idea why it broke, they look for $800 or so part replacement.

The part is half that so that means the labor is $200 per hour. A bunch of crooks and rip off merchants.
